Testimonials
My tutor had a strong understanding of the concepts I was having trouble with. She was able to come up with some practice problems for me to do, and helped with some textbook problems that I was having trouble with.
Despite all of the hard work Maddie put into helping me with chemistry, I knew that it wasn’t the right major for me because I never had the same passion that
she radiated. What made her as great of a tutor as she was, was that she loved teaching the material because she loved the material herself. Because of her, I not only adequately completed my chemistry course, but I was encouraged to pursue a major that I could radiate the same passion for. If it weren’t for her, my time at Providence College would be drastically different, and I truly don’t know where I would be today. Also, I think it is pertinent to acknowledge Maddie’s ability to have been helping me at the time and other students, all while succeeding herself. Therefore, knowing how dedicated she is, I was not
surprised when she told me she would be pursuing her education at Harvard, and I am genuinely looking forward to seeing where her passion takes her.
Before tutoring with Maddie I was averaging around a 75 on Organic Chemistry assignments and was feeling very unmotivated and discouraged. Since then, I’ve
developed a much more positive attitude towards the subject, viewing it as a fun challenge, and got a 100% on my most recent exam. I owe a lot of my successes to her studying tips, clear explanations, and encouraging words.
Since I first started working with Maddie, I recommended her to any friends taking chemistry, many of whom pursued my recommendation and raved about their experience with her. Whenever someone asked why they should go to her, I was left nearly speechless, unsure of where to even begin. Her intelligence and knowledge of the material made it so that there was no question left unanswered and that all the concepts could be understood through multiple perspectives and proving their validity by correlating the task at hand to other concepts. Additionally, it was clear that she wanted her students to understand the material just as much as they wanted to and would take the time to explain beyond the textbook.
I struggled a lot while taking Organic Chemistry and had gone through other tutors without feeling like I was making any progress in my approach to learning.
It wasn’t until I made the decision to switch and start tutoring with Maddie that I finally noticed a difference! She is so helpful and encouraging, making me feel like I am actually capable of improving, which helped motivate me to work towards the goals I set for myself. She is unlike any other tutor I have ever had as she not only provides me with new learning strategies and help with material, but also makes me want to do better for myself.
Maddie worked tirelessly to help me understand my general chemistry material when I first arrived at Providence College. Although she was only required to
work with me during my 50-minute appointment at the office of academic support, she would work outside of our scheduled times to come up with practice problems and examples for me knowing that I was struggling in the class. Her passion for chemistry was just as strong as her passion for helping me, and I accredit her for the good grades I received in my chemistry classes.
As a mid-semester exam was approaching, I began panicking about how I should study for it, as my teacher had little to no guidance or suggestions on how we
should study. I was so nervous that I wasn’t going to review the right things or practice the correct type of problems, but upon meeting with Maddie days before our typical meeting time, she had already prepared a practice packet for me. The packet included key concepts, various practice examples, and even personalized notes that she knew would help me recall things when I was working on my own. This is one of many examples of Maddie going above and beyond for me, but it truly reflects her character beyond the typical tutor/teacher role.
